- The VAST majority of business is generated through word-of-mouth referrals.
- Use "product reviews" on your website as defacto referrals
More than 70% of online shoppers actively seek out product reviews, so, the same should hold true for your web design business.
- Don't be shy - start talking up your business.
Tell everyone you know what you do and ask them for their business, then ask them to refer business to you.
Also, write them a reminder/thank you letter every six months...
- Speak to every ISP and Graphic Artist in the area and offer your services to their customer base.
- Keep your conversation in context. Don't simply blurt out, "I do websites, do you want a website?"
As the business owners a few questions about THEIR products and can you buy them online, etc.
Let it slip (after a while) that you develop websites and you noticed a surge in online sales/info in areas surrounding their business or product.
